Dual Pane Windows

Repairing double-pane windows should be done immediately even if you don’t think it’s damaged that bad. The thing is, a broken double pane window can be the culprit behind the condensation in your home.

Double-pane windows are life-savers, but you wouldn’t want a broken one to mess up your home or any space. Once seals in the glass are damaged, it immediately loses its function. Results may immediately escalate from condensation to damaged interiors and heightened energy costs.

Replacing the broken window glass only may not guarantee the best fix. Double-pane windows need to be inspected properly because damaging the glass also breaks the whole factory seal.

A double-pane window, as the name suggests, consists of two glass panes that are assembled with a space in between. This space has air suctioned from it, which is then filled with an inert gas, usually of argon or krypton. This enables a slow passage of heat as inert gases are less heat-conductive than air. An assembly like this is called IGU or an Insulated Glass Unit.

This is why if an IGU breaks, it’s not only the glass that is damaged, but also the whole assembly of how the two glass panes operate. Just fixing glass won’t make a double-pane window work the way it used to.
